Course Description

Course Title: Acting I

Pre-Requisite a B or higher in Drama I
This course will focus on acting technique. Students will study acting methods and teachers such as Uta Hagen and Constantin Stanislavski. The students will explore vocal and movement techniques. They will utilize IPA, dialects, yoga, and Laban Method to fully utilize their tools of body and voice.

Course Title: Drama I

This is an introductory course including the language of the theatre, the different elements of putting on a production, and beginning acting. Students will study basic principles of acting; study character analysis; explore the use of objectives, obstacles, & choices; learn basic stage and rehearsal terms; learn about theatre etiquette; and the audition process.  Students will perform scenes and monologues from a variety of genres to give them many types of experiences on stage.

Course Title: Drama II
Pre-Requisite: a B or higher in Drama I
In this course, students will continue to learn play analysis skills at a higher level. Students will learn theatre history, covering from Ancient Greek plays all the way through to modern day. The students will learn about the major playwrights of each time period and experiment with the acting style of the varying plays. Knowing plays and playwrights will give these students an advantage when choosing audition material and provides a solid foundation for actor, designer, and director.  The students will study character analysis, further their work in acting technique, and perform a wide variety of scenes.

Course Title: Junior High Drama I
This course is designed to give the student an introduction to drama including appropriate theatre terminology for stage, voice, movement, improvisation, acting, directing, technical aspects of production, historical theatre, and theatrical careers.  The study of drama will be approached through study of text, participation in projects, discussion, and classroom performance.

Course Title: Junior High Drama II   
Pre- Requisite: Jr. High Drama I
This course is designed to give the student an introduction to drama including appropriate theatre terminology for stage, voice, movement, improvisation, acting, directing, technical aspects of production, historical theatre, and theatrical careers.  The study of drama will be approached through study of text, participation in projects, discussion, and classroom performance.
